Volkswagens are for kids. At least they used to be, back during a simpler time when prices were lower, chassis were zippier, and the marketing team took to naming cars after cute, furry forest creatures. But over the years the Rabbit got pushed down the hole, the Fox got hunted down, and by the time that $69,000 Phaeton arrived, you had to wonder what was going on in fahrfegnugenland.
Just about every automotive company has been scrambling in desperation to regain lost youth. Volkswagen, meanwhile, seems to want to grow with Generation X. All of those former juveniles who grew up with their VeeDubs parked on fraternity (or more often, sorority) row now have something they didn't at the time: MONEY. The face of VW has been evolving in price, class, and maturity in recent years, and the time has come for the Jetta to get with the program. Next Page
