2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Review

Top-down fun or wagon-like practicality in a gangstermobile.

2005 PT Cruiser Review Summary & Specifications

The Chrysler PT Cruiser appeals to people of all ages and lifestyles with its whimsical, retro design. Its affordability increases its appeal. And its practicality often closes the deal with a roomy, versatile interior that makes the price easy to justify. It isn't particularly refined, however. The GT models deliver strong acceleration performance and bring hot-rod credibility to this hot rod. The convertible offers genuine open-air fun and is great for carrying four people, but isn't practical for hauling cargo.

Since my mom and I saw our first PT Cruiser in 2001, we've lusted after them.   Not long ago, my mom acquired a 2004 PT Cruiser that was a great car to drive.    Recently, my trusty van was at a point that I needed to replace it, and I found a 2005 PT Cruiser which I got 2 weeks ago.  Compared to my old, rather ponderous minivan, the PT Cruiser is an absolute joy to drive, and a pleasure to use in city driving/parking.   I had just gotten the car before I had to leave for a week long teaching workshop, and I had that Cruiser stuffed to the gills with my luggage and teaching stuff.  It handled everything with little effort, even with a large pet carrier.   Right after the weeklong workshop, I had to unpack car and repack for a trade show in a big city with very tight parking.   Again, the Cruiser showed it's true colors by being able to turn on a dime in the middle of a street during unloading, and wedging itself into a tight parking spot.   Despite only having the car for 9 days, I love it!
