Newcomers: 2008 Audi A8
This is one of those stealthy Germanic facelifts. Audi claims heavy updates, but there are no new bends in the aluminum, and dynamic improvements to this already exceptional car will be subtle to the most discerning A8-o-phile.

New grille mesh designs give you that "something's different, but I don't know what" feeling, with horizontal chrome strips for the V-8s, vertical chrome strips for the W12, and a "radiator-style" grille for the new, not-for-U.S. 3.2-liter FWD model. Add chrome door-handle accents, 58 LEDs in each taillamp, 10-spoke 18-inch wheels or handsome five-spoke 19-inch wheels or a sport package with the S8's 20-inch wheels and new aluminum interior trim. Throw in four new paint colors, three new interior colors, and three new interior trim options. Emphasize Audi's personalization program, with two-tone interiors like the tasty chocolate inserts on dove gray leather seats in an A8 we drove.

First Look: 2008 Audi A8
The A8's rack-and-pinion steering, featuring a variable steering ratio and Servotronic power assist, has been optimized for a more direct feel. The car's adaptive suspension has been retuned, with the system's electronically controlled variable dampers fitted with new seals to reduce friction. The suspension also employs new valves and updated hydraulics -- all in an effort to further smooth out the luxo sedan's already impressive ride. Making the A8 quieter in the cabin was another Audi focus. An insulation package has been added in an effort to reduce rolling and road noises -- all without adding to the vehicle's weight, according to the automaker. Two new safety systems have been added to the A8 mix: side assist and lane assist.

2008 Audi A8 Review
The Audi A8 is fast, roomy, luxurious and exceptionally comfortable. It rides like a luxury car, yet it's taut and handles like a sports sedan. Loaded with innovation, the A8 is a thinking person's luxury car, more progressive, less traditional than a BMW or Mercedes. It's elegant but not arrogant, indulgent without being excessive. It's priced a little lower than comparable sedans from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, yet gives up almost nothing to either.
