EXPERT REVIEWS & RATINGS

2008 Lamborghini Murcilago LP640 Roadster
For $361,700 (with e-gear), you certainly can buy a more practical sports car, but you can't buy a more outlandish one. With an amazing engine and a wild ride that can take you past 200 mph, the topless LP640 fears no rivals in terms of its wow factor.

Lamborghini claims that the two-seater can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, a 0.4-second gain over the previous version. A Bugatti Veyron is almost four times more expensive but only 0.9 second quicker.

2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster Versace
Lamborghini and Versace have teamed up once again to create an ultra-luxury Murciélago. This time, their canvas is the LP640 Roadster.

Like the coupes before them, the roadsters feature Versace's designs throughout and are painted in a white pastel color. The interior is covered in embroidered leather bearing Versace's Greek key fret design on the black-and-white seats, as well as the instrument panel, center console and door panels.

Lamborghini LP640 - First Drive
To handle the added heat of a 6.5-liter V12 that needs to rev more than 8000 rpm much of the time, the opening for the left side intake is bigger now to increase cooling via the larger radiator put there for engine oil chilling. Transitions at the throttle-by-wire are made smoother now, thanks to a better action from the variable intake and exhaust valves.

This fresh beast gets to 60 mph from parked in just 3.3 seconds. It is now officially the most powerful exotic currently on any production line. Thank goodness for the optional 15-inch ceramic rotors at $13,000 pre-tax.
