First Look: 2009 Chevrolet Impala
For 2009, all Chevrolet Impalas get anti-lock brakes, traction control, and thorax side-impact airbags as standard equipment. Powertrain choices remain the same the 2008 Impala: standard is a 3.5L V-6 making 211 hp, and it's the most fuel efficient of the Impala engine options at 18 city/29 highway. More power comes in the form of the 3.9L V-6 putting out 224 hp. A 303-hp, 5.3L V-8 tops the engine range. Fuel economy is respectable but would certainly be improved with the addition of a five- or six-speed automatic transmission in place of the Impala's aging four-speed unit. With many states introducing laws banning handheld cell-phone usage while driving, Chevy now offers the option of Bluetooth connectivity (through the OnStar system) in the 2009 Chevrolet Impala. Dual-zone climate control is now standard all models, while a newly designed spoiler is an option on the LT trim level and standard on LTZ and SS models. Three new colors, an improved cupholder design, new 18-in. wheels on the SS model, and illuminated vanity mirrors for driver and passenger round out the changes.
