EXPERT REVIEWS & RATINGS

2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8
The mid-line 3.8-liter V-6 engine in our test vehicle offers enough power (a 251-hp, 4.0-liter V-6 is also available) - but the ride and handling are a bit sloppy. The 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan interior is dated, both in quality and appearance. I also was confused by the mix of equipment here. One would expect a DVD screen to include navigation and at least steering wheel controls.

One complaint stems from the odd option content - our van was equipped with dual DVD screens and a system that looked as if it had navigation and Bluetooth, but had neither. Opting for those features forces buyers into the next level of SXT trim, or for that money, into a Chrysler Town & Country.

2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 4.0
Which brings me to this 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. From an equipment perspective, it's a dead ringer for our Four Seasons Chrysler Town & Country (Swivel 'N Go, UConnect navigation, leather seats, DVD player, power sliding doors, remote start; you name it, it's got it), yet it's devoid only of the ornate trim details our T&C sports. Personally, I can live without the extra detail, as even without the Chrysler's grille, dash clock, and chrome rolling stock, the 2009 Grand Caravan is reasonably attractive.

2009 Dodge Grand Caravan Review
The 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan offers unmatched versatility. The 3.3-liter V6 with 175 horsepower is fine, while the optional 3.8-liter and 4.0-liter engines make more power with almost the same fuel mileage. The ride is smooth, but handling is decidedly minivan. It's inside where the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan leaps high hurdles. Flexible seating, lots of storage space, good lighting, and impressive entertainment options can upgrade your lifestyle, at least while underway. In terms of versatility, the Stow 'n Go seats that disappear into the floor for carrying cargo are hard to beat.
