EXPERT REVIEWS & RATINGS

2009 Ford Edge SEL FWD
The 2009 Ford Edge scores in the average range in pretty much all areas. It isn't striking to look at, but it also isn't ugly. It goes down the road fine with no real standout flaws but isn't truly inspiring either. It's your typical five-passenger crossover. I found the integrated blind spot mirrors an interesting touch, and SYNC is a pretty handy feature as well.

Its styling is clean and modern, and the 2009 Ford Edge is distinctive enough that it's instantly recognizable amid the sea of lookalike vehicles on today's roads. The 265-hp V-6 and six-speed transmission work well together, providing smooth acceleration and plenty of power to move this two-ton vehicle down the road. The 2009 Edge interior is very nicely laid out, with big, easy-to-decipher controls and a nice dashboard layout. The seats are fairly comfortable, but I'm still waiting for the day when Ford takes advantage of its ownership in Volvo and imports that division's terrific seats into its Ford products.

2009 Ford Edge Sport
The 2009 Ford Edge Sport is a dressed-up crossover utility designed to help buyers stand out from the crowd - as long as everyone else in the crowd doesn't go out and buy one. The big wheels are the most obvious difference, with painted 20-inchers standard and the aforementioned polished aluminum 22s as an option. Low profile rubber is a must with rolling stock that big, so the new 2009 Edge wheels get Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires. An eight-piece body kit circles the lower portion of the Edge, adding side skirts, a rear skirt, and a front air dam. Twin polished exhaust tips peek out from below the rear bumper, while black bezels on the headlights and taillights round out the more aggressive look. Shown here in Sport Blue, the 2009 Ford Edge Sport will also be available in Ebony, Brilliant Silver, and Redfire.
