2009 Subaru Forester 2.5X
Inside, the 2009 Subaru Forester is about on a par with a base Impreza, which is to say pretty basic.

2009 Sport/Utility Of The Year: Subaru Forester
With a starting price of $20,660, our 2009 Subaru Forester is the most affordable AWD SUV in this group. Perhaps not saying much in a field that includes $65,000 Infiniti and $80,000 Lexus behemoths, until you look at what's included.

First Look: 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5X
Despite happy talk about better departure angles, greater ground clearance (now 8.7 inches for the normally aspirated version, 8.9 for the turbo), and even a 5.0inch-tighter turning circle, the new Subaru Forester's questionable 4.3-inch height increase could offend the purists. "It's only for style [even with the optional mega-sunroof]," they snarl, just so it doesn't look like a station wagon. Perhaps.

2009 Subaru Forester Review
The 2009 Subaru Forester competes with the Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 among others. Its style used to be distinctive, but it's now less so, as its shape has morphed toward the others, while theirs has morphed toward the Forester's.

If you're thinking of entering the Baja 1000 in the unmodified crossover class, a Subaru Forester would be the way to go (but don't stop at any Way Points).

The Forester is rated to tow 2400 pounds. Maybe so, but it will struggle without the boost of the turbo, whose torque comes lower and lasts longer.

Overall, the new Forester compares favorably to its main competitors, the Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4.
