First Look: 2010 Buick LaCrosse
Engines at launch will be GM's new spark-ignition, direct injection (SIDI) 3.0L gas V-6 in the CX and CXL 2010 Buick LaCrosse trim levels. It's rated a healthy 260 hp and 214 lb-ft, and a manufacturer's estimated 18 city, 27 highway mpg on the EPA cycle. It will come with front or all-wheel drive. The AWD system is an upgrade to the Saab 9-3x's Haldex system, which can direct up to 85% of the power to the rear wheels even in the dry, to simulate rear-drive dynamics. It comes with an electronic limited slip differential. Power for the top of the range 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS is the now familiar direct-injection 3.6L V-6, making 280 hp and 261 lb-ft in this application, and achieving 17/26 mpg. Buick estimates a high-6.0-sec 0-60-mph time. This engine will be available only with front drive. A six-speed automatic is the only option for either 2010 LaCrosse engine, and with a 20-gal fuel tank, range is more than 500 miles in either case.

2010 Buick LaCrosse
Both the base CX and premium CXL 2010 Buick LaCrosse models receive an all-new 3.0-liter direct-injection V-6. Rated at 255 hp and 211 lb-ft of torque, the new V-6 is mated to a six-speed automatic. While the CX is strictly a front-wheel-drive car, the 2010 LaCrosse CXL is also available as an all-wheel-drive model - a first for Buick, and a feature that helps the LaCrosse compete against Lincoln's MKZ. If that isn't enough power for you, look towards the 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS. Buick fits this car with the same direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6 found in the Cadillac CTS, though it's been de-tuned to 280 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque. The LaCrosse CXS also includes features like active suspension, heated and cooled seats, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

2010 Buick LaCrosse Preview
Standard power will likely come from a 250-hp version of GM's turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder, replacing the anemic 3.8-liter V-6 currently offered on the 2010 Buick LaCrosse CX and CXL. The LaCrosse Super could be powered by the 3.6-liter direct-injection V-6 found in the Cadillac CTS. In that application the V-6 makes 304 hp, besting the current Super's 5.3-liter V-8, which is good for only 300 ponies. We expect six-speed automatic transmissions all around, in place of the current Buick LaCrosse's four-speed autos.
