Body Styles: SUV
Engines: 3.7-liter V6
Transmissions: five-speed automatic with manual shift control
2008 marks the second year of production for the Acura MDX midsize crossover SUV. Completely redesigned for its 2007 launch year, there are no notable changes to the 2008 model.
In comparison to its class competition, the 2008 Acura MDX is taller, wider, and longer, topping out at nearly 16 feet. With a five-sided front-end grille that closely resembles a battering ram, consumers and critics are torn about its aesthetic appeal. Lifted by 18-inch alloy wheels, the Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights were heavily sculpted along with its LED tail lights for a more cutting edge exterior appearance. With an antennae integrated into its rear spoiler feature, the 2008 Acura MDX comes with a power tailgate with the entertainment package that can be operated manually, with a remote key, from a button on the driver's side door panel, or a button affixed to the tailgate.
p>Loaded with top-quality cabin materials and a host of comfort-driven amenities, the 2008 Acura MDX’s interior provides an ideal ride. The aluminum steering wheel features nine mounted control options for the on-board entertainment systems and information displays. There’s also a triple-zone climate control that allows the driver, front passenger, and rear passengers to set varying temperatures for optimum comfort. Other features include leather seating, 10 cup holders, wood or metallic trim throughout, and a slew of optional extras depending on the trim. Interior space is ample with a 60/40 split second row and a 50/50 split third row for a total of almost 84 cubic feet with all the seats down.
Performance & Handling
The 3.7-liter V-6 propels the 2008 Acura MDX with 300 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. With a towing capacity of 5000 pounds, it can sprint from a standstill up to 60 mph in just over eight seconds, which is a tad on the slower side for a competing SUV. With a Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive system (SH-AWD) that handles torque distribution between not only the front and rear wheels but the left and right rear wheels, the 2008 Acura MDX takes to curvy roads with enthusiasm and skill. For an extra bonus of better handling, opt for the Sport package; its drivers are treated to two-mode dampers that lessen some of the more pronounced bumps, especially as the speed increases.
Performing near the top of its MDX class when it comes to vehicular impacts, the 2008 Acura MDX includes all the standard safety features designed for maximum passenger protection: full length side curtain airbags, front seat side airbags, anti-lock braking system with assist, stability control with an extra features when trailering, traction control, dusk sensing head lights, child seat anchors, turn signal mirrors, and tire pressure control.
