2013 Acura RDX Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

Vehicle Overview

The 2013 Acura RDX targets the entry-level luxury SUV and crossover market, and unlike other small luxury SUVs, comes with a standard 273 horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The 2013 Acura RDX delivers an EPA-estimated 20/28/23 mpg city/highway/combined when equipped with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive models of the Acura RDX get 19/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined. Both models are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift paddle shifters, offering a more exciting alternative to a standard automatic transmission.

Earlier this year, we were able to drive the 2013 Acura RDX (http://www.automotive.com/acura/rdx/2013/road-test) and were happy that for the 2013 model year, Acura ditched the I4 engine in favor of a more powerful V-6. Not only did the Acura RDX increase in power, fuel economy improved as well. We drove it to Arizona and back, nearly 700 miles, and were able to top the combined fuel economy range. Although there was more road noise than anticipated, it was comfortable and handled everything we could throw its way. "The RDX is utterly conventional. It carves no new ground, yet it's just the vehicle it needs to be to succeed in its class: comfortable, sure-footed, and plenty luxurious."

The 2013 Acura RDX has joined many vehicles in the Acura lineup by earning an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating, which recognizes the vehicle's ability to protect all occupants in the event of an accident.
