The 2009 Acura RL is Acura’s luxury performance sedan. Restyled for 2009, it offers the technological systems and understated luxury that Acura owners expect. As other vehicles in its class may cost $10,000 mores, the 2009 Acura RL is a smart choice for drivers who want a value-focused luxury sport sedan.
The Acura RL is offered in one base model, but optional packages are available that Acura has designated as trim levels.
Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 3.7-liter V-6 engine
Transmissions: five-speed AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) shiftable automatic transmission
- More powerful engine
- Complete exterior and interior restyling
- New suspension
- Host of new standard and optional features
The exterior has been modified with a new design to the headlights and taillight cluster; the grille includes a shielded band. Standard equipment includes eighteen-inch alloy wheels with P245/45R18 96V performance tires, variable intermittent wipers, rear defogger, power rear sunshade, manual rear side window sunshades, power glass sunroof, turn signal mirrors with heat and reverse tilt to show curb view when backing up.
The interior is well equipped on the base model. The climate control dash controls and air vents have been redesigned; cabin insulation has been improved. The front seatbacks have been changed to increase rear seat legroom. The Acura RL offers only 13.1 cubic feet of trunk space, which is less than other vehicles in its class. Additional trim packages offer more options.
Standard interior features include cruise control, electric speed-proportional power steering, universal remote transmitter, tilt/telescoping steering wheel with paddle shifters and cruise and audio control functions, power door locks, power windows, multi-level heated driver and passenger seats with 8-way power, power lumbar support and height adjustment, leather upholstery, rear ventilation ducts with fan control, interior air filtration, dual-zone climate controls, leather and wood interior trim, self-dimming rearview mirror, memory settings, tachometer, trip computer, external temperature display, pre-wired for phone/Bluetooth, and Bose premium audio system with AM/FM/CD/MP3/USB with ten speakers and surround sound.
The Technology Package offers an enhanced climate control system (with six-level heating and ventilation), as well as wood dashboard trim. It also features a voice-activated navigation system with real-time weather and traffic information. The optional Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) uses radar sensors to monitor traffic in front of the vehicle. If the system detects that a collision with a vehicle or stationary item is imminent, it alerts the driver. If the driver does not immediately react by applying the brakes, the system applies pressure to the brakes and tightens the front seat belts.
The Advanced Safety Package includes CMBS and adaptive cruise control, which also uses radar sensors to vehicle speed when cruise control is being used. If the adaptive cruise control senses that traffic ahead is slowing, it decelerates to a lower speed. When traffic is moving again, and the distance between the vehicle and the vehicle in front is increasing, it will accelerate to return to the speed that was preset on the cruise control.
Performance & Handling
Larger stabilizer bars and recalibrated springs have enhanced the suspension and improved handling. The SH-AWD (Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive) system sends additional power to the rear wheels when cornering. When the vehicle is traveling straight ahead, 90% of the engine power is sent to the front wheels to improve fuel economy.
Standard safety features include four-wheel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), front and rear head airbags, dual front side-mounted curtain airbags, remote anti-theft alarm system, emergency braking assist, front and rear ventilated disc brakes, daytime running lights, engine immobilizer, fog lights, dusk-sensing Xenon HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlights, traction control, stability control, and electronic brake force distribution.
Acura offers a basic warranty period of 4 years/50,000 miles (whichever comes first) on your Acura RL. Roadside Assistance for battery jumps, lockouts, flat tires and empty fuel tanks is also in effect for this initial warranty period. The drivetrain warranty period is 6 years/70,000 miles. If you have an iPhone, you can download the AcuraLink iPhone app to summon roadside assistance, or speak to an agent when vehicle problems occur. They can dispatch assistance to you, whether you need to have a tire changed, or need emergency medical assistance due to an accident.
