The 1996 Acura SLX is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that comes with a 3.2-liter, V-6 engine, capable of 190 horsepower (hp) and 188 lb-ft of torque, coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission. Its off-road capabilities and on-road performance are considered slightly better than the competition. Two notable features of this vehicle are the sunroof option and the 5,000-pound towing capacity.

The SLX is one of the first luxury SUVs to be released in the United States.


The 1996 Acura SLX comes standard with several features, including alloy wheels, four skid plates, a full-size spare wheel/tire, a power antenna, and remote power-heated mirrors, which will come in handy when driving during cold and icy weather conditions. Conversely, for keeping cool and comfortable on those bright, sunny days, light tinted windows are also standard. A power glass sunroof is available as an option.


All seats in the 1996 Acura SLX come upholstered in cloth, with bucket seats in the front, and a 50-50 split-folding bench seat in the rear of the vehicle. Manual air conditioning and an AM/FM/Cassette audio system come standard, with no option for a CD player. Other standard interior features include power front and rear windows, front and rear reading lights, a cargo light, a leather, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, a partial floor console, and a rigid cargo cover.

A heated driver’s seat is available as an option, which, along with the heated mirrors, could come quite handy in the winter months. Leather upholstery is also available as a luxurious option.

Performance & Handling

The 196 Acura SLX is a part-time four-wheel-drive vehicle. It comes equipped with front and rear anti-roll bars to help with stability when driving over irregular surfaces or cornering. Cruise control is standard, and locking/limited slip differential is available as an option. This SUV is capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds.


The 1996 Acura SLX comes with several standard safety features, including driver and passenger airbags, front and rear vented anti-lock disc brakes, cornering lights, a security system, variable intermittent front windshield wipers, and a rear defroster. Power door locks also come standard, although remote keyless entry is not available. Front fog lights and a regular rear wipers are available as options.
