A safety packed crossover SUV with an impressive interior.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2011 Acura ZDX will appeal to young families wanting a smaller, sportier crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV). You will enjoy the high-performance handling and the interior features, like the great audio system, while the safety features will give you a sense of security while traveling down the street or across the country.

The Range

Body Styles: Crossover SUV Hatchback
Engines: 3.7-liter V-6

Models: ZDX Base

What's New

The 2011 Acura ZDX is unchanged from the 2010 model year.

The 2011 Acura ZDX blurs the line between coupe, sedan, and SUV. This hatchback crossover has short side windows, Acura's signature silver-shield grille, and chrome door handles. The ZDX is equipped with a power glass roof that looks like a broad stripe when viewed from above. Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights and 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are standard. All in all, the ZDX is an appealing package with its curvy body and sloping roof line.

Available colors are Crystal Black Pearl, Grigio Metallic, Palladium Metallic, and Aspen White Pearl II.

The 2011 Acura ZDX is built to seat five, and technically it can, but the sloping roofline cuts into the headroom for the rear seating. That aside, the rest of the interior is luxury personified. Notable are the design and generous use of leather in the interior of the ZDX. From the driver's seat, you'll find all the controls right where you'd expect them. Front-seat passengers will find supportive, comfortable seating. The driver's seat is 10-way adjustable, while the front passenger seat is eight-way adjustable and both are heated and leather trimmed. The instrument panel, console, and door trim are all premium hand-stitched leather as are the steering wheel and gearshift knob. The driver's seat has a two-driver memory system, which remembers the settings for the seat, side mirror, steering column, and audio and temperature settings. The rear seating has a 60/40 split and folds flat to increase cargo area.

Other interior amenities include a premium audio system with AM/FM tuner, six-disc in-dash CD, MP3, WMA changer, and eight speakers, USB Audio interface, XM® radio, Bluetooth® HandFreeLink® wireless telephone interface, Speed-Sensitive Volume Control (SVC), trip computer, dual-zone automatic climate control with humidity control and air filtration, cruise control, remote entry system, and rearview mirror with rearview camera display.

Performance & Handling

The 2011 Acura ZDX comes standardly equipped with its Super Handling All-Wheel Drive® (SH-AWD®), which is found on other Acura vehicles. It enhances all-wheel drive by transferring power to individual wheels, maximizing traction and grip through turns, whether in inclement weather or dry driving conditions. Drawing its power from a 3.7-liter V-6 with 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, it has a six-speed automatic with manual shift control. The Advance package offers two driving modes, Comfort and Sport. This selection gives the driver even more control over how the vehicle handles.

The 2011 Acura ZDX makes zero to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. It has a towing capacity of 1500 pounds when properly equipped.

The 2011 Acura ZDX is nicely equipped for safety with anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. Blind-spot monitoring and a duo of a collision mitigation braking system and adaptive cruise control are added with the optional Advance package. The collision mitigation system monitors distance between the vehicle and other objects to predict the likelihood of a front-end collision. When a threat is detected, an audible and visual alert is given. If the driver doesn't take action, the system brakes and tightens the driver's seatbelt. If the system determines a collision is imminent, braking force is increased and both front seatbelts are tightened.
