Acura ZDX Origins

Acura unveiled the concept version of the ZDX in a series of video spots between March 16th and 20th, 2009. Shrinking down the SUV, while keeping much of the power and handling capabilities, makes the Acura MDX a suitable choice for someone who wants a vehicle with lots of driving power but better gas mileage and a smaller package. Be aware, however, the ZDX does lack some of the performance of its MDX and Pilot counterparts.

About the Acura ZDX

The Acura ZDX is known for its visual aesthetics, including the sloped front, modeled after the Honda Pilot and the MDX, and the hatchback, which creates a look unlike many of the other vehicles out there. The interior offers plenty of space and storage. The ZDX serves great as a family vehicle, or a great hauling vehicle for those not interested in purchasing a pickup truck.

The ZDX’s engine represents the largest of all Acura vehicles. The engine provides 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, making the vehicle extremely powerful on a standstill takeoff. The forked crankshaft of the engine reduces weight and increases performance. Given all this power, fuel efficiency remains pretty impressive, providing 23 mpg highway and more in the city according to 2012 EPA mileage estimates.

The struts are designed for the all-wheel-drive system, which equalizes power distribution between all wheels. Fast acceleration causes the all-wheel-drive system to shift power to the rear wheels for better traction. Power shifts to the outer wheels during cornering to prevent cornering issues.

Torque sensors assist the ZDX’s power steering system, which adjusts the strength necessary to steer the vehicle at both high and low speeds. Steering stays firm at high speeds and loose at low speeds to prevent loss of control and extra exertion.

Nearly half of the ZDX body uses steel, making the body rigid and streamlined. Insulation materials can be found in the bulkhead, floor, and doors to prevent knocking noises during operation. The glass of the vehicle is formed to negate wind frequencies, making the ride quiet and isolated.

Acura ZDX Features

The 2012 Acura ZDX model measures 192.4 inches in length, 78.5 inches in width, and 62.8 inches in unladen height. The wheelbase stretches 108.3 inches and uses 19-inch wheels.

The Acura ZDX contains a 3.7-liter, V-6 engine made of an aluminum alloy. The drivetrain provides the trademarked Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The car uses an automatic transmission, but also has paddle shifters that allow you to switch between personal control and automatic shifting.

The Acura ZDX has a variety of lighting and visibility features, including a rear-view camera and HID headlights standard, as well as an optional blind spot information system. The car has an automatic temperature control with a GPS-linked temperature control as an added option.

The hood, instrument panel support, and other areas of the 2012 Acura ZDX that require less weight to operate efficiently employ lightweight aluminum. This brings the entire car’s weight down to a sprightly 4410 pounds.

This model offers luxurious seating. The driver’s seat adjusts 10 ways and includes lower back support for a comfortable ride. Internal memory can record up to two drivers’ seating and performance preferences. The passenger seat has an eight-way adjustable seat. The Advance Package of the Acura ZDX, which includes luxury options, allows you to control heat for the front occupants of the vehicle. The back seating includes a central armrest and a flat floor, allowing for more storage space. The back seats fold, providing storage on a nearly flat floor. The layout affords each passenger 95.8 cubic feet of space.

The 2012 ZDX comes with a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty. It offers a variety of different packages, including advanced navigation and voice command options.

Acura ZDX Evolution

The Acura 2010 and 2011 models vary little from the 2012 model.

The 2010 models come in a variety of colors, including White Pearl, Metallic, Taupe, Ebony, Ionized Bronze Metallic, Grigio Bronze Metallic, and Umber, depending on the package purchased. The 2011 also comes in many exterior colors.
