2006 Aston Martin DB9 Review

The 2006 Aston Martin DB9 is a high-end performance sport coupe that is consistently at the top of the list of recommended buys, if you can afford its excessive price tag.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The Aston Martin DB9 line introduced an all-new model in 2005. Aston Martin was made famous from the James Bond spy movies. The DB models were sold throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and redistributed again in 1994. The DB9, which replaced the retired DB7 model, quickly gained popularity because of its lightweight aluminum chassis. Available as a coupe and as a convertible, the 2004 DB9 features a Cosworth-designed, 6.0-liter, V-12 engine that runs smoothly and powers to an impressive top speed of 186 mph.

The 2004 Aston Martin DB9 is hand-built to order, and comes with a long list of features and an exhaustive array of interior/exterior color combinations. If you can manage to find a feature that isn’t already standard with the car, you can easily find it on the list of optional add-ons. If the desired feature somehow fails to surface on either list, you can have your vehicle customized to include it when you place your order.

Body Styles: 2+2 Coupe, Convertible

What's New

Aston Martin added more standard equipment and made some minor changes to the interior design.

The standard exterior features of the Aston Martin DB9 include19-inch wheels, a rear defogger, speed-sensitive windshield wipers, high-performance tires, rear parking sensors, fog lights, Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, and the Volante convertible model has a soft top.

The exterior of the BD9 begs to be driven fast. The curvy body and sloping hood lend to its aerodynamic properties, and the distinctive, sporty wheels make bystanders do a double-take. The lines are smooth and sleek, and the front and rear bumpers blend seamlessly with the body.

Standard features for the 2006 Aston Martin DB9 coupe and Volante include eight-way power heated seats with power-adjustable lumbar support, automatic climate control, a navigation system, Bluetooth, premium leather upholstery, speed-sensitive power steering, a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with transmission controls, and aluminum/wood trim. It also has cruise control and a six-disc CD changer. The DB9 is fully customizable and it is hand-built to order.

The interior of the DB9 is clad in premium, hand-stitched leather. The instrument panel has milled aluminum and a unique wood trim that offers a rich and luxurious feel. The rear seat is very small – too small to comfortably seat even one adult. The driver and front passenger have adequate legroom. The extravagant interior of the 2006 Aston Martin DB9 is the result of years of tweaking and upgrading, and the craftsmanship, ergonomics, and design have reached perfection.

Performance & Handling

The 2006 Aston Martin DB9 is powered by 6.0-liter, V-12 engine that produces 450 horsepower at 412 lb. ft. of torque. It comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission, but you can customize the vehicle with the optional six-speed automatic transmission. It is equipped with a double wishbone suspension and front and rear independent suspension systems. The braking system is comprised of large four-piston brake calipers that provide impeccable stopping power.

The Coupe has a stiffer build than the convertible Volante, but both models display excellent handling and responsive, sharp steering. Despite the stiff chassis, the ride remains smooth and controlled. The DB9 is able to reach top speeds of 186 mph, and it has a sprint speed of zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds. This car is very fun to drive, especially on winding roads. You can feel the controlled handling, and rest assured that the 17-inch tires will stay connected with the pavement.

Standard safety equipment for the 2006 Aston Martin DB9 includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist, a tire pressure monitor, stability control, a remote anti-theft alarm system, front seat air bags, and traction control. The Volante is equipped with roll loops that automatically deploy if the car senses an impending rollover.
