2009 Aston Martin DBS Review

Ferocious speed from an opulent, handcrafted vehicle.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2009 Aston Martin DBS oozes power and opulence. The modified version of the Aston Martin DB9 has the power and performance to handle anything the road gives you, and lets you do it in style. It offers sports car speed and GT elegance with all the comforts found in a touring GT, and it has the potential of becoming a great car for getting to the office every day.

Owners can take advantage of the Aston Martin Driving Experiences. Drivers have the chance to savor unforgettable moments behind the wheel. From driving through the glorious Italian Lakes, to immersing yourself in the drama and spectacle of the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race, to enjoying the unique excitement of powering an Aston Martin around a special course carved into the snow at the glamorous ski resort of St Moritz, you can be sure of one thing: Aston Martin ownership is an experience like no other.

The Range

Body Styles: coupe
Engines: 6.0-liter V-12
Transmissions: six-speed manual, six-speed shiftable automatic
Models: Aston Martin DBS coupe

What's New

The 2009 Aston Martin DBS offers an optional six-speed automatic transmission. A Bang & Olufsen audio system is new, along with rear seating that sits partially in the cargo area.

The DBS’s aluminum frame helps to keep the vehicle’s weight in check; at 3737 pounds it offers agility along with the power of the engine. The 2009 Aston Martin DBS offers a grille and hood similar to the DB9 and V8 Vantage. Xenon HID headlights come standard, along with LED taillights in the rear. An underbody air diffuser in the rear makes quite a statement.

The interior of the DBS looks similar to the DB9 interior. Most controls sit on the center stack. It features full-grain, hand-stitched leather upholstery. The front seats hug the driver and passenger. If desired, you can select fully bolstered bucket seats in exchange for the thinner racing seats. Alloy interior trim sets off the leather; it all works to create a sporty yet elegant interior.

Performance & Handling

The DBS’s engine thrills drivers. It has blazing speed. The manual transmission works to provide optimum shifting. The damping system and stability control ensure excellent handling in turns and on uneven pavement, although you may feel every pothole. The ABS and emergency braking assist, as well as brakeforce distribution work together to ensure that braking can handle all of the speed and power that the engine delivers.

The ZF-sourced six-speed Touchtronic automatic transmission is controlled by the buttons installed on the center stack. In normal mode, shifting feels relaxed. The steering-column-mounted paddle shifters let you have F-1 shifting ability with the 2008 Aston Martin DBS in Sport mode. Normal mode suits heavy traffic.

The VH (Vertical Horizontal) underframe consists of pressed, extruded, and cast aluminum components, bonded together to create an immensely strong underlying structure. It results in a car with plenty of agility; a strong, stable platform for the V-12’s high power output; and an exhilarating driving experience.

Standard safety features include stability control, traction control, ABS, and rear parking sensors. The carbon-ceramic brakes handle the heat generated from stopping the powerful 2009 Aston Martin DBS.
