2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Review

The baby of the brand, but still packs all the style, luxury, speed, and charisma drivers expect from the storied carmaker.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage serves as the entry-level Aston Martin. While it may be an entry-level, the Vantage proves as beautiful, luxurious, and high-performing as any other Aston Martin.

The V8 Vantage comes in two body styles: roadster and hatchback coupe. Both body styles have more or less the same equipment. This powerful little car comes with a V-8 engine.

The Range

Body Styles: hatchback coupe, roadster convertible
Engine: 4.3-liter V-8
Transmission: six-speed manual, six-speed automatic
Models: Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster, Aston Martin V8 Vantage Limited-Edition N400

What's New

For 2008, the Aston Martin Vantage adds audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, cup holders on the console, an auxiliary audio jack, and a window-embedded antenna.

A new, limited-edition, the N400, debuts for 2008. Inspired by Aston Martin’s successful N24 racecar, the N400 comes with an upgraded 4.3-liter V-8 capable of 20 more horsepower, firmer suspension tuning, lightweight wheels, and exterior and interior trim changes.

Exterior

As with other Aston Martins, the V8 Vantage has a very pretty face. It has an aluminum platform underpinning and an assembly of aluminum extrusions, magnesium and steel castings, and composite body panels that are lightweight and rigid. The V8 Vantage has a dry-sump lubrication system for the V-8 and a rear-mounted transaxle for enhanced weight distribution.

Exterior features on the 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage include 18-inch wheels with an option for 19-inch wheels with high-performance tires. The power-operated roof on the roadster goes down in approximately 18 seconds, and rear parking sensors come standard. Consumers have a choice of 17 exterior colors.

Interior

The two-seat 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage is no different from other models, in that it has a beautifully crafted and luxurious interior.

Standard interior features include four-way passenger and eight-way driver power-adjustable seats, driver and passenger power-adjustable lumbar support, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, leather bucket seats, and remote power locks and windows. Aston Martin also offers a choice of 21 interior colors.

It includes plenty of standard conveniences, such as cup holders, a console with storage, door pockets, power steering, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, rear parking sensors, and steering-mounted audio controls.

Luxury and comfort combine to offer climate control, alloy and leather trim on the console, leather and alloy dash trim, leather trim on the doors, reading lights, and dual vanity mirrors.

One would not think features such as heated seats and cruise control would be optional on a vehicle with such a high price tag, but that remains the case with the V8 Vantage. In addition, the seats seem fairly narrow, which could be uncomfortable for a larger person on a lengthy drive.

Performance & Handling

The 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage announces its power with a roar and rumble from its dual exhaust, and few cars can give as enjoyable a ride as this vehicle. On curves, the V8 Vantage gives a good performance and stays where it needs to be.

The V8 Vantage draws power from a 4.3-liter V-8 capable of 380 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque. The N400 contains an upgraded version of the same engine capable of producing 400 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. This power goes to the rear wheels by a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. With the manual transmission, the coupe accelerates from zero to 60 mph in a mere 5.1 seconds.

The Vantage gets you where you want to go quickly with wide tires and a serious engine. It makes a great choice for someone who likes an exciting drive and likes to show off a little.

Safety

The 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage comes with standard safety features such as traction and stability control, anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, side airbags, rear parking assist, a remote anti-theft alarm system, an engine immobilizer, electronic brakeforce distribution, and tire pressure monitoring.
