The 2009 Audi A3 is Audi’s entry-level hatchback that offers budget-conscious drivers the quality and performance that Audi is known for - without breaking the bank. Its compact size, excellent handling, and available cargo space make it a great choice for families who want a quality vehicle at an affordable price.

The Base 2.0T PZEV is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a front-wheel-drive (FWD) six-speed manual transmission; a six-speed S tronic shiftable automatic transmission is optional. The Audi A3 generates 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 60 mph time is 6.7 seconds.

Exterior

The coupe-like silhouette of the 2009 Audi A3 is sure to please; it does not look like a stodgy station wagon. Wraparound taillights have been added to update the rear of the vehicle. Standard equipment on the Base 2.0T PZEV Audi A3 includes seventeen-inch alloy wheels, variable intermittent wipers, rear window wiper, halogen headlights, and turn signal mirrors. Standard equipment that is particular to the 3.2 quattro includes variable intermittent rain-sensing wipers, ""Open Sky"" power sunroof, mechanical center differential, center limited slip differential, and dusk-sensing Xenon HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlights.

Interior

The front seats sit lower, and aluminum trim is found throughout the cabin. The rear doors open wide, to allow passengers to get in and out of the vehicle more easily. The Audi A3 offers a maximum of 56 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded down. That’s enough room to store your gear for a weekend getaway.

Standard equipment on the Base 2.0T PZEV Audi A3 includes charcoal air filtration, dual-zone climate controls, sun sensor, simulated alloy interior trim, trip computer, cruise control, rear window defogger, tachometer, external temperature display, center console with storage, tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, paddle shifters, leather upholstery, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, eight-way power driver’s seat with manual lumbar adjustment and height adjustment, and AM/FM/CD/MP3/Satellite with radio data system and ten speakers. It is pre-wired for cell phone usage, and offers Bluetooth capability.

There are several option packages that add even more features to the Audi A3 2.0T. The Premium package offers the power driver seat, Bluetooth, and paddle shifters on cars equipped with the S tronic automatic transmission. Additional packages add updated bumpers, updated interior trim, rear spoiler, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Xenon headlights and premium Bose audio system.

Performance & Handling

The Sport package, available on both the 2.0T and the 3.2 quattro models, includes eighteen-inch alloy wheels with performance tires, sport seats and a sports-tuned suspension. An enhanced Sport package adds the Magnetic Ride Control suspension.

The 3.2 quattro model is equipped with AWD (all-wheel-drive); AWD is also available in the 2.0T models equipped with the S tronic transmission. The 2.0T models equipped with the six-speed manual transmission are equipped with hill hold assist.

The 2009 Audi A3 3.2 quattro is equipped with a 3.2-liter, 250-hp, V-6 engine and AWD S tronic six-speed shiftable automatic transmission. The AWD Audi A3 3.2 quattro can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds.

Both of the engines available in the Audi A3 are capable of generating enough horsepower to get you where you want to go. In addition to the normal suspension system, the Sport and Enhanced Sport packages offer a more finely tuned suspension to enhance cornering and driving on slippery surfaces.

Safety

Front seat side-mounted airbags and side curtain airbags help to protect the driver and all passengers in an accident. ABS, traction control and stability control are all standard equipment. The 2009 Audi A3 earned a ""Good"" rating in both frontal and side-impact crash tests. Standard equipment on the Base 2.0T PZEV Audi A3 includes four-wheel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), remote anti-theft alarm system, power door locks, power windows, power mirrors, electric speed-proportional power steering, emergency braking assist, ventilated front disc / solid rear disc brakes, daytime running lights, engine immobilizer, stability control, traction control, electronic brake force distribution, and tire pressure monitoring.
