The 1997 Audi A4 comes with two engine choices, two transmission choices, and four trim levels. The 1.8T models come with the 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine, while the 2.8 models come with the 2.8-liter, V-6 engine. All models come standard with the five-speed manual and the option of the five-speed automatic transmission. One outstanding feature is a rear ski bag. Based off the Volkswagen Jetta chassis, the Audi A4 offers luxury, power, and style not seen in its value counterpart. It is a great choice for buyers who want class and comfort.

What's New

The 1997 Audi A4 1.8T model debuts this year. All models receive new upholstery with the console and armrests trimmed with the same fabric as the seats. There are three new exterior paint colors available this year.


All 1997 Audi A4 models come with 15-inch alloy wheels, tinted glass, and power heated mirrors as standard features. A power moonroof and rear ski bag is optional for all models. All models, except for the 1.8T, also have the option of metallic paint and special factory paint.


Standard features for the 1997 Audi A4 include bucket seats, cloth upholstery, air-conditioning, automatic climate control, tilt steering wheel, AM/FM/Cassette audio system, and power windows. Heated front seats, a trip computer, Bose audio system, and leather upholstery are optional features for all models. The 1.8T offers optional sport seats and a leather steering wheel. The 2.8T come with a leather steering wheel, center console, and power driver’s seat standard. Vinyl upholstery is available as an option for the 2.8T.

Performance & Handling

The 1997 Audi A4 handles well, especially with the Quattro option. It is available with a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine or a 2.8-liter V-6. Both engines are also available with or without the Quattro all-wheel drive. Standard features include traction control, cruise control, and power steering. The Quattro models also come with a locking differential standard.


Standard safety features of the 1997 Audi A4 include four-wheel anti-lock brakes, driver and passenger front airbags, power door locks, a rear window defroster, remote trunk release, and intermittent windshield wipers. An anti-theft alarm system also comes standard on the 2.8T sedans. A keyless entry system is optional for all models.
