What's New

Each member of the 2005 Audi A4 lineup receives new bi-xenon headlamps this year, as well as an all-new satellite/navigation/AM-FM radio antenna. XM or Sirius satellite radio is now optional on the convertible, while OnStar availability has been eliminated from all models. The lineup also benefits from new engines, upgraded chassis, and refreshed styling in 2005.

The 2005 Audi A4 acquires tasteful bodylines, and a modest front-end characterizes the exterior. The taillights are very geometric and flow with the overall shape. Several exterior color options are available to accommodate all styles.

The 2005 Audi A4 is designed to seat five people, while the sportier convertible fits four occupants. All seats are well bolstered and quite comfortable, and even the convertible provides a decent amount of legroom. Standard equipment for all models includes automatic dual-zone air-conditioning, cruise control, a tachometer, a leather steering wheel with mounted controls, a full stereo system with CD changer, a cassette player, a subwoofer, and power-adjustable front seats. A wide range of options is also available for each trim level, including heated seats, a navigational aid, a trip computer, and real wood trim.

Performance & Handling

The wide-ranging 2005 Audi A4 offers a number of engine choices. All 1.8T models are powered with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder, while the 2.0T models carry a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. A 3.0-liter V-6 is offered with the 3.0 editions, while the 3.0T comes with a 3.1-liter V-6. Either a five- or six-speed manual transmission is available with different models, while the continuously variable transmission is only offered in models equipped with FrontTrak. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) models may also be equipped with a five-speed Tiptronic automatic that allows manual selection of simulated gears. With so many engine and transmission options available, it’s not hard to create a car that’s perfectly suited to your personal driving interests with the A4 lineup. Yet whatever power combination you end up choosing, it provides ample power and truly admirable handling. It handles any road’s twists and turns with ease, while the absorbent suspension makes for a very comfortable ride on most road surfaces.

The 2005 Audi A4 comes with an impressive list of standard safety features. Basic equipment for all models includes child safety door locks, power windows and door locks, a first aid kit, a trunk anti-trap device, and vehicle anti-theft. Front-side airbags and side head curtain airbags come standard on all models, while second-row side airbags are optional. Anti-lock brakes are provided, as well as electronic brake assist. All models come with a locking differential, traction control, and vehicle stability control. All-wheel drive is available only on certain models. The NHTSA has given four out of five stars for frontal crash protection for both the driver and front passenger. Five stars were awarded for front-side crash tests, and four stars for rear-side crash tests.
