2013 Audi A4 Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2013 Audi A4 is a top-rate, four-door sports sedan. The A4 is Audi's best-selling model, although it is forever on the heels of BMW's 3-Series in terms of being best in class. It’s still impressive with industry-leading technology in the cabin and excellent performance and handling.

The A4 comes in three different trims: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Multiple packages are available, including the Convenience package with Bluetooth and the Lighting package with xenon plus lights, both of which are standard on the Premium Plus and the Prestige models. Drivers looking for a sedan offering both sportiness and luxury should consider the 2013 A4.

New For 2013

For 2013, Audi didn't make too many changes to the very successful A4, but the changes that were made are enough to keep it at the top of its game and competitive with other cars in its class. 2013 upgrades include:

  • Revised interior – redesigned steering wheel, new key fob, new chrome trim
  • New steering system
  • Google Street View and an available Wi-Fi hot spot
  • Bluetooth streaming audio and Audi connect with Google search and Google Earth map overlays

The 2013 Audi A4 receives a new exterior look including a new front fascia and redesigned headlamps and taillights sporting a skinnier, more angular look. The front grille is also a bit more angled, giving it somewhat of a hexagonal appearance. The exterior redesign gives the A4 a sleek, streamlined look. The A4 offers rain-sensing windshield wipers as well as automatic headlights that respond to changes in light. Drivers upgrading to the Prestige trim enjoy headlights that also pivot up to 15 degrees when turning to provide better visibility. The Premium Plus trim comes with auto-dimming heated exterior side mirrors. All trims come with standard 17-inch alloy wheels and all-season tires.

Interior & Cargo

The interior of the 2013 Audi A4 is comfortable, yet luxurious. Plush leather upholstery comes standard as does a climate controlled vented glove box that helps keep drinks cool. Upgrading to the Premium Plus trim provides a three-zone automatic climate control that offers the driver, front passenger, and rear passengers the opportunity to set their desired temperature. It also comes with heated front seats.

Audi continues to make advancements with the technology in the A4. Drivers will enjoy various controls on the steering wheel, including controls for the Audi music interface with iPod integration. The Prestige trim boasts the Audi MMI Navigation plus, which features a seven-inch screen, SC memory slots, and Bluetooth, as well as Google Search and Google Earth map overlays. There is also a touch-sensitive pad that makes it possible for drivers to input commands into the navigation system by writing letters with their finger. The Bang & Olufsen sound system pumps out 505 watts premium sound with Dolby Digital 5.1 technology through 14 speakers.

The new Audi A4 boasts many standard safety features, including side and curtain airbags, stability control, traction control, four-wheel ABS, safety belt reminder for driver and front passenger, and turn signal mirrors, as well as a post and pre-collision safety system and a driver/passenger head restraint whiplash protection system. For children's safety, the A4 provides rear door child safety locks and Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) in rear seats. New for 2013, the Prestige trim offers Audi Side Assist that can detect cars in your blind spot and flashes LEDs in the side mirror housings as a warning.

The International Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2013 A4 in the highest possible rating of ""good"" across the board on the frontal offset test, side impact test, roof strength test and rear crash test.

Driving Experience

The Audi A4 features an award-winning, 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. According to Audi, this is one of the most awarded engines from the last decade. It provides 211 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and can go from zero to 60 in 6.5 seconds. Drivers can choose between front-wheel drive and quattro all-wheel drive. It also combines the Audi valvelift system, variable valve timing, and TFSI direct injection for greater power and efficiency. In terms of fuel economy, the Audi offers 22/32 mpg city/highway, 26 combined for the manual and 20/30 mpg city/highway, 24 combined for the Tiptronic version.
