Audi's sporty mid-size sedan and wagon, the A6 and performance-oriented S6, have been updated for 2009 with minor cosmetic changes. The most notable updates include new taillights similar to that of the A4, and new powerplant options.
True to Audi's nature, even the base model A6 is equipped with features such as 17-inch allow wheels, LED head- and taillights, dual exhaust outlets, and leather seating for five.
The base engine is a 255 horsepower 3.2-liter V6 that sends power to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission. Available engines are an all-new supercharged 300-horsepower 3-liter V6, a 350 horsepower 4.2-liter V8, and a 435 horsepower 5.2-liter V10, which is under the hood of the S6. Power with these up-rated engines is sent to Audi's Quattro all wheel drive through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel economy ranges from 14 miles per gallon city with the S6, up to 27 miles per gallon highway with the base A6.
Base MSRP for the 2009 Audi A6 is $45,100. A fully loaded S6 will top out at just under $80,000. The A6 and S6 are backed by a 4-year, 50,000-mile powertrain warranty.
With updated styling and the addition of a potent new supercharged powerplant, the A6 and S6 are once again poised to take on the heavy hitters in the mid-size luxury sedan market.
