2012 Audi A6 Review

All new and more competitive than before.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The A6 is all-new for 2012, and with the midsize luxury sedan segment so competitive, newer is almost always better. The 2012 Audi A6 is equipped with technology that is advanced as any vehicle in its class, and it all starts with the body of the car, which features an aluminum hybrid lightweight technology that reduces total weight by 78 pounds.

The 2012 Audi A6 receives two engines for 2012. First is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 211 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes with a multitronic automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The more powerful engine is the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 310 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. With this beastly engine comes an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive.

Package options include Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Innovation Package with the latest driver assistance systems including head-up display, night vision assistant, adaptive cruise control, and Audi pre sense plus. Many more features are offered on this freshened high-class sedan from Audi.

What's New

The 2012 Audi A6 is all-new this year. Leather seating surfaces with options including climate and comfort seats are offered. Also, the car is built using a hybrid construction of aluminum and steel; aluminum body panels and a steel frame. This has resulted in a weight reduction of 78 pounds. The A6 also gets a new more efficient turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

The 2012 Audi A6 has a sporty yet sophisticated exterior. It features available LED headlights and taillights, as well as chrome steel exhausts that really stand out when viewing the rear of the car. The luxury sedan features an aggressive front end, from its black grill to its sleek headlights. The A6 has a somewhat wide stance that adds to the sedan's sportiness.

The interior of the 2012 Audi A6 screams luxury. It is equipped with leather seating and optional climate and comfort seats. Wood trim is also available. Technology, though, is really what defines the A6's interior. Audi connect with Google Earth Navigation and Wi-Fi hotspot capability are offered.

Performance & Handling

If performance is what you're after, we would suggest the upcoming S6 model. Although it will not feature a V-10 engine like its predecessor, the new S6 will likely be an impressive yet understated performance sedan. While the 2012 Audi A6 is more about luxury, the S6 screams BMW M5-challenging speed. Better brakes, suspension, and engine are all part of what the S6 has to offer, and the end result is a sedan with sports car numbers. Regular A6s have an available sport package that offers the choice between all-season or performance tires.

The 2012 Audi A6 is equipped with six airbags. Other safety features include ABS, and stability control. Technology is used to increase safety as well in this car, as the car is equipped with both pretensioners and anti-whiplash head restraints. Pretensioners is the seatbelt automatically tightens in a collision to put the passenger in the best position for the accident. Anti-whiplash is created by the head restraints reacting to the collision and cradling the passenger's head.
