The 1997 Audi A8 is the perfect combination of sport and luxury. With superior interior appointments and a revolutionary, lighter, and more responsive frame, it is truly a force to be reckoned with. It also comes with two powerful engine choices, one transmission choice, and two trim levels. Two outstanding features are the standard moonroof and front and rear side airbags.

What's New

The 1997 Audi A8 uses Audi’s revolutionary Space Frame, which is made of aircraft-grade aluminum alloys. It is also the first passenger car equipped with six airbags.


The standard wheels on the 1997 Audi A8 are 16-inch alloy wheels with the option of 17-inch wheels. Standard equipment includes a power moonroof, power antenna, and power exterior mirrors. Meanwhile, optional features include a power solar sunroof, metallic paint, a rear ski bag, and a power rear sunshade.


The 1997 Audi A8 offers leather-upholstered bucket seats, and the steering wheel has leather trim, too. Air conditioning and automatic two-zone climate control comes standard. Both the driver and front passenger seats are powered with the driver seat also having memory. Even the tilt steering wheel is powered. Other standard features include a center console, trip computer, power windows, auto-dim rearview mirror, and an AM/FM/Cassette audio system. Heated front and rear seats are optional, as are steering wheel audio controls and a Bose audio system.

Performance & Handling

The performance and responsiveness of the 1997 Audi A8 is very impressive thanks to its lightweight aluminum alloy construction. Cruise control and power steering come standard. The 3.7-liter V-8 on the base model is capable of producing 230 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque. The 4.2-liter V-8 on the Quattro is capable of producing 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.


The 1997 Audi A8 comes standard with four-wheel anti-lock brakes. Driver and passenger front airbags, and front and rear side airbags come standard. This is one of the only luxury cars of its time to have six airbags available. Other standard features include fog lights, a keyless entry system, rear window defroster, remote trunk release, intermittent windshield wipers, and power door locks. The base sedan also comes with an anti-theft alarm system, and the Quattro comes with locking differential.
