The A8 is the best equipped vehicle manufactured by Audi in 1998. Most of the features that are available as options on the A4 or A6 are standard equipment on the A8. The A8 comes with either a 3.7-liter, eight-cylinder engine or a 4.2-liter, eight-cylinder engine, which makes it more powerful than other Audi vehicles and much of its competition.
The Audi A8 combines excellent performance and luxury into one solid package. The powerful eight-cylinder engine gives the A8 plenty of power for fast acceleration and good top speeds. Almost every optional feature found on most other 1998 vehicles is a standard feature on the A8.
The only major downside to the A8 is the price. It is substantially more expensive than the A4 or A6, which makes it less attainable for some buyers. While it is the top most Audi model, the A4 and A6 cars are still excellent in their own right. As a result, some drivers get these two vehicles over the A8, since a lower price tag is more important than extra features for some buyers.
Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 3.7-liter eight-cylinder, 4.2-liter eight-cylinder

The Tiptronic automanual gear shifter is now a standard feature on the Audi A8. The antilock brake system is improved compared to previous models. A sunroof, improved stereo, and dual-pane laminate glass are now standard features on both models.
The Audi A8 is only available as a sedan. Unlike the A4 and A6, there is no wagon option on the A8. The larger A8 still shares its design fairly closely with the A4 and A6. The build quality is exceptional. A power moonroof and metallic paint are available as options.
The 1998 Audi A8 is designed to compete with luxury sedans built by BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Not surprisingly, the A8 has excellent build quality and interior design to ensure the comfort of all of the passengers. The cabin is large and spacious, even with the larger systems crammed into the body. All models have air conditioning, dual-zone climate control, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power seats, a leather trim steering wheel, leather seats, anti-theft alarm system, and a cassette player as standard features. A CD player, CD changer, keyless entry, heated seats, a power sunshade, and Bose audio are available as optional features. Unlike most vehicles, heated seats are available for the rear seats.
Performance & Handling
The 1998 Audi A8 has excellent performance from combining a lightweight body design with a powerful eight-cylinder engine. The steering system is well built, virtually eliminating the torque steering issues that often plague similarly designed cars. The Audi A8 is an agile car that steers very well. The A8 manages to find an excellent balance between power and ease of driving.
By the standards present in 1998, the Audi A8 has one of the best lists of safety features available. Dual-front airbags, side-front airbags, rear-front airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, and traction control are all standard features. This list of features is better than the A4 or A6 with standard equipment.
