2007 Audi A8 Review

Plenty of power and a ton of luxurious features at a fair price.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2007 Audi A8 comes in three trim levels, all of which give consumers all-wheel drive and a ton of impressive features, including built-in massagers for the front seats. If you’re willing to spend more, give the L W-12 Quattro a test drive. The six-liter, W-12 engine offers thrilling power that will make anyone seriously consider buying a premium luxury sedan.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 4.2-liter V-8, 6.0-liter V-12
Transmissions: six-speed automatic
Models: Audi A8 Quattro, Audi A8 L Quattro, Audi A8 L W12 Quattro

What's New

The 2007 Audi A8's 4.2-liter engine now uses direct fuel injection, which adds 15 hp to its output. Audi also added MP3 connectivity to the Bang & Olufsen audio system's CD player. The W12 now comes standard with satellite radio, iPod integration, and a rearview camera. Twenty-inch tires are now an option for the 4.2 model, which was previously only available at upper trim levels.

Audi has found a careful balance between classic design and futuristic aesthetics with the 2007 Audi A8's exterior. It features sleek lines that make it easy to imagine how the car cuts through wind while barreling down the highway. It's a classy vehicle, but it doesn't let style overcome its need for expert engineering.

The 2007 Audi A8 offers a comfortable seat for every passenger. The L model is particularly comfortable. Tall passengers will certainly appreciate the 42 inches of legroom, an amount of space that's even hard to find in SUVs. The 2007 A8 also offers considerable comfort for the eyes. It has a fabulously-designed interior that has been executed with expert craftsmanship. Everywhere consumers look, the A8's interior boasts wood, suede, and aluminum. Aesthetically, it combines an emphasis on high-quality materials, which many car manufacturers seem to have forgotten with a modern sense of attractive design. Simply put, it's one of the best interiors in its price range.

The 2007 Audi A8 comes with plenty of standard features that will maximize comfort and entertainment on the road. Even the entry-level Quattro comes with four-zone climate control, seat heaters, front seats with built-in ventilation and massagers, four-way lumbar adjustment for all passengers, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a navigation system. If, somehow that isn't enough, consumers can choose to upgrade the stereo to a 1000-watt Bang & Olufsen. They can also add a sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and even a personal refrigerator.

Performance & Handling

The 2007 Audi A8 Quattro and L Quattro models come with a 4.2-liter, V-8 engine with direct fuel injection. It offers 350 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. The 2007 Audi A8 W-12, however, comes with a monstrous six-liter, V-12 engine that kicks out 450 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. That should turn a few heads on the highway. The 4.2-liter, V-8 engine gets the 2007 Audi A8 from zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. It can clear a quarter-mile in just a tad over 14 seconds. The W-12 shaves off about half a second from those times.

The 2007 Audi A8's strong engine can make driving fun, but drivers also need quality handling that allows them to take full advantage of that power without feeling like they're going to lose control. Luckily, the 2007 Audi A8 offers good handling that will let them switch lanes eagerly and take on sharp turns as if they were straight-away. The 2007 Audi A8 also has a good air suspension that offers a smooth ride and minimum road noise. The brakes also offer enough force to reassure. An optional Sports Package gives them 20-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension that makes the A8 even more fun to drive.

The 2007 Audi A8 is packed with safety features. Standard features include stability control, a tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, and active front headrests. It also has front and rear seat-mounted side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags to protect passengers in all directions.
