- 2009 is the introductory year for the Q5 Premium quattro
The 2009 Audi Q5 looks like a smaller version of Audi’s Q7 SUV. Built on the A4 chassis, its exterior is three inches wider and three inches shorter than the A4. Ground clearance on the Q5 is 7.9 inches. Aluminum roof rails with crossbars are available; if installed, Audi’s ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) sensors adjust the Q5’s center of gravity to ensure that up to 220 lbs. of cargo can be safely transported without affecting the vehicle’s handling.
The Q5 features Audi’s signature single-frame grille; Xenon headlights and LED running lights are available options. The wraparound aluminum tailgate resembles the rear of the Q7; LED taillights are also an option.
Three external trim options are available: standard black, body paint color finish, or you can choose a contrasting trim color. The S Line exterior package offers twenty-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires, high-powered headlight washers, S line front and rear bumpers, as well as an alternate grille and side valances.
The Off-Road package features an alternate front valance with a stainless steel skid plate. It helps protect against uneven terrain when the Q5 is driven off-road. The Off-Road rear valance protects the rear underbody of the vehicle with a second stainless steel skid plate. Twenty-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels are engineered to meet strict tolerances. A swiveling trailer hitch is available to let you take advantage of the Q5’s 4400 lbs of maximum towing capacity.
You can make your Q5 sportier by ordering the S Line package. It offers 20-inch alloy wheels and summer tires, steering wheel-mounted shift paddles, sport steering wheel, and aluminum trim.
The Q5’s interior is similar in style and comfort to that of the A4. The seats are comfortable and provide an excellent vantage point. The Q5’s rear seats adjust forwards and backwards, and also recline, giving passengers the ability to control their comfort. The rear seats also fold flat, which increases the Q5’s overall cargo capacity to 55 cu ft.
The Q5’s interior electronic options are plentiful. The Audi MMI Navigation plus features a seven-inch, full-color LCD screen and a voice-activated navigation system with 3-D topography. In the Prestige trim level, a parking system with a rearview camera is offered.
Audi drive select controls the vehicle’s adaptive suspension, dynamic steering, transmission shift characteristics and engine response. The system offers your Audi four distinct driving configurations: Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual.
The Premium Plus package features Xenon HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlights, auto-dimming/power folding rearview mirrors, LED daytime running lights, driver memory functions, heated front seats, panorama sunroof, power lift gate, and an upgraded audio system with a six-CD changer. The MMI (Multi Media Interface) Navigation package (when added to the Premium Plus package), adds Audi’s MMI electronics control system, where all electronic equipment controls are contained in a single control knob on the dashboard, a voice-activated navigation system with real-time traffic updates, and a rearview camera to aid in parking/backing up.
Performance & Handling
The Tiptronic shiftable automatic transmission allows the driver to manually select the gears and enables gear changes to take place with minimal interruption in engine power, even during downshifts. An additional sport program delays upshifts for a sportier driving experience.
The Premium package contains all of the equipment that is standard on the 3.2 Premium quattro.
The Prestige package includes the MMI Navigation package plus nineteen-inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition/entry (the vehicle is started by pushing the Start button), and a Bang & Olufsen audio system with surround sound and 14 speakers. Optional equipment in the Prestige package includes twenty-inch alloy wheels, the Audi Drive Select system that allows the driver to control the adaptive suspension, dynamic steering, transmission shift characteristics and engine response. There are 27 available configurations depending upon whether the driver selects the Comfort, Auto, Dynamic or Individual setting, and a blind-spot monitor.
Front side-mounted airbags, side-mounted rear airbags and full-length curtain airbags are standard. The ESP and Descent Control systems work to help you safely navigate on uneven terrain. High- and utra-high-strength steel is used in much of the body. They reduce overall vehicle weight and improve crash safety.
