Vehicle Summary

Slotting above the compact Q5, the 2018 Audi Q7 is a three-row crossover with seating for seven passengers and standard all-wheel drive.

Overview

Two engines are available on the 2018 Q7 including a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque and a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 with 333 hp and 325 lb-ft. Both engines are paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission and are EPA-rated at 19/25 mpg city/highway. Cargo space is 14.8 cubic feet behind the third row, 37.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 71.6 cubic feet behind the front seats.

Standard features include HID headlights, tri-zone climate control, split-folding second and third rows, a 7.0-inch multi-information display, Audi's MMI system with a 7.0-inch screen, leather upholstery, keyless entry/start, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, Audi Drive Select, a rearview camera, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Higher trim levels are available with LED headlights, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, the Virtual Cockpit system, navigation, a 360-degree camera system, ventilated and massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, alloy wheels up to 21 inches in size, air suspension, four-wheel steering, a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, a larger 8.3-inch screen for the MMI system, parking sensors, and a head-up display.

Safety

The 2018 Audi Q7 hasn't been crash tested by the NHTSA but in IIHS evaluations it received the Top Safety Pick rating after it received a Good score on all crash tests (Good is the highest possible score). The crossover earned a Superior rating on the front crash prevention test after it avoided a 12-mpg collision and reduced the impact of a 25-mph impact by 23 mph (Superior is the highest possible score). On the new headlight test, the 2018 Q7 received a Marginal score, which prevented it from receiving the higher Top Safety Pick+ rating. Automatic emergency braking comes standard on all 2018 Q7s. Optional active safety tech include active lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and high beam assist.

What We Think

In a 2017 First Test, we said that the Q7 is supremely comfortable and, like all Audis, the interior is built with high-quality materials and the slick Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster. Although first- and second-row space is plenty for adults, the third row is best left for children, as there's minimal head- and legroom back there. Tire noise was minimal and despite its size, the Q7 handles well with the standard or air suspension, but the latter does cause the car to get bouncy. Acceleration with the 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 is strong and makes it one of the quicker cars in its class with a Motor-Trend-tested 0 to 60 mph time of 5.7 seconds.

Cool Fact

The second-generation Audi Q7 is the first seven-seat crossover from Audi to feature a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
