2008 Audi RS 4 Review

The performance of a high-end sports car in a less expensive package.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 2008 Audi RS 4 costs much less than the Audi R8, but it has all the performance of a high-end sports car. With a modest back seat and a small trunk, the RS 4 allows for extra passengers and carrying capacity. Both the Sedan and Cabriolet models give the driver a great ride. The comfortable handling is brought about by good balance. The RS 4 has excellent brakes. The interior includes very comfortable and stylish seating for the driver and passengers. The RS 4 includes a long list of safety features and has been given plenty of positive feedback from its owners. Most of the ratings for reliability show almost no problems, and the RS 4 comes available as a convertible or a sedan.

The Range

Body Styles: two-door convertible, sedan
Engines: 4.2-liter V-8
Transmissions: six-speed manual
Models: limited-edition RS 4 Cabriolet, RS 4 Sedan

What's New

For 2008, the RS 4 Sedan Audi offers new trim packages. The RS 4 Cabriolet marks a limited-edition model not previously available. The RS 4 Cabriolet shares the same engine as the RS 4 Sedan. The seats are not bolstered as aggressively as the Sedan and the interior design gets altered slightly. The body looks more fluid with some of the rigidity of the Sedan removed.

Exterior

The Audi RS 4 Sedan includes a rear spoiler to increase traction in the high-performance tires. Also included are variable intermittent wipers, a rear defogger, glass power remote sunroof, and cargo tie-downs.

The RS 4 Cabriolet includes alloy wheels and high-performance tires, like the RS 4 Sedan. The Cabriolet’s power convertible roof makes driving a pleasure in the sunny summer months and helps keep the driver and passengers cool while commuting.

Interior

In the Sedan, multi-level heated seats remain available for both the driver and front-passenger seats. Both front seats come equipped with eight-way power adjustments and power-adjustable lumbar supports. The seats use premium leather, with the front seats having a sporty style that looks very attractive. The power door locks can be controlled via remote. Heated power mirrors avoid frosting or steaming in cold or humid weather. All four power windows have remote operation. The factory sound system comes with a total of 10 speakers. A six-disc CD player keeps the music playing. An MP3 player lets the owner choose his or her own playlists, and Sirius satellite radio provides an option on the Audi RS 4.

In addition to all the features available in the RS 4 Sedan the RS 4 Cabriolet’s two front seats get height adjustment. The Cabriolet also adds speed-adjusted power steering to improve handling and control. Most other features of the interior remain very similar to the Audi RS 4 Sedan.

Performance & Handling

Both models of the Audi RS 4 offer 400 horsepower, distributed to all four tires with all-wheel drive. These models provide impressive acceleration. The Audi RS 4 can brake quickly and handles turns and twists at high speeds thanks to all-wheel drive and traction control.

Safety

The Audi RS 4 includes an impressive list of safety features, including front and rear airbags, dual front side-mounted airbags, an anti-theft alarm system, emergency braking assist, front and rear ventilated disc brakes, stability control, traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a brake drying system.
