Performance & Handling
The S4’s 4.2-liter V-8 engine is powerful; it can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds with the manual transmission. You can use the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters with the shiftable automatic transmission. Cornering is helped by the quattro AWD and the traction and stability control systems.
The suspension, a combination of four-link with upper and lower control arms, stabilizer bar and separate coil springs/shock absorbers (gas-charged) in the front, and a fully independent trapezoidal-link with stabilizer bar and separate coil springs/shock absorbers in the rear, ensures that the driver and passengers experience a smooth ride. Audi’s ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) monitors the speed, steering angle, throttle settings and has sensors on the car suspensions linkages. This will back off the throttle or apply braking adjustments to wheels to attempt to keep the car on the road when the car is driven close to its limit.
Standard safety equipment includes side-impact airbags, head extension airbags, driver’s side knee airbag, ABS with brake assist, traction control and electronic stability system. The convertible is equipped with automatically deploying rollover hoops if a sensor detects a rollover situation.
Safety features include a mechanical center differential, center limited slip differential, front and rear multi-link four-wheel independent suspensions, front and rear stabilizer bar, four-wheel ABS (Antilock Braking System), remote anti-theft alarm system with engine immobilizer, emergency braking assist, electronic brake force distribution, front and rear ventilated disc brakes, stability control, traction control, post-collision safety system, and tire pressure monitoring.
