New for 2018

The 2018 Audi S5 is powered by a new turbocharged engine and is now available in a hatchback called the S5 Sportback.

Trim Levels (Interior and Exterior Options)

The 2018 Audi S5 is the performance variant of the A5, slotting below the larger S7 hatchback. The car comes standard with all-wheel drive and is available in coupe, convertible, or four-door hatchback body styles.

S5 Premium Plus: The base Premium Plus trim comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, heated front seats, Bluetooth, keyless entry and start, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a 7.0-inch screen for the MMI interface, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster display and two USB ports.

S5 Prestige: Moving up to the Prestige trim adds features like Audi's Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, navigation, a 360-degree camera system, a larger 8.3-inch screen for the MMI interface, and a head-up display.

Optional features include ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 19-inch alloy wheels, dynamic steering, and the S Sport package, which adds red brake calipers, adaptive dampers, and a sport rear differential.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The 2018 S5 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 with 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy ratings are 21/30 mpg city/highway for the S5 Coupe and Sportback, and 20/29 mpg for the S5 Cabriolet.

Safety

Not all body styles of the 2018 Audi S5 have been crash tested but the Sportback received a five-star rollover score from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars). When the IIHS tested the A5 Coupe and Sportback, both variants received a Good rating on all crashworthiness tests except the passenger side front overlap test where it hasn't been tested and the headlights test where it received a Marginal score (Good is the highest possible score).

In the IIHS' front crash prevention test, the S5 Coupe and Sportback received a Superior rating after both avoided a 12-mph collision and reduced the severity of a 25-mph one by 22 mph (Superior is the highest score for front crash prevention). Both models earned a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick rating.

Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking come standard on all S5 models. The Driver Assistance package, which is only available on the Prestige trim, adds adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping assist, high beam assist and traffic sign recognition.

Utility

The 2018 S5 Coupe has 11.6 cubic feet of cargo space and can be expanded with the standard split-folding rear seats while the S5 Cabriolet has 9.3 cubic feet. The S5 Sportback has the most cargo capacity at 21.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 35 cubic feet behind the front seats.

What We Think

In a 2018 First Drive, offers strong acceleration and offers plenty of grip even in the wet thanks to its standard all-wheel drive system. The eight-speed automatic is quick to shift but the steering is disconnected even in its most aggressive setting. Build quality is excellent with solid materials throughout the interior and it's complemented with slick tech features like Audi's Virtual Cockpit.
