1995 Audi S6 Review

A luxurious sedan with amped up power.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 1995 Audi S6 is actually the continuation of the S4. Audi adapted a new model numbering system this year, which influenced the model number change. The Audi S6 is based off the basic body design of its sibling, the 100, just like the S4 was in previous years. In terms of appearance and size, it shares a lot in common with the A6. In fact, some people may have difficult telling them apart even when placed side by side.

The 1995 Audi S6 might look similar to the A4, but it is a better quality vehicle. The level of performance and standard features list is much more substantial than the lower priced counterpart. It's equipped with a more powerful engine, which is, rather unusually, smaller than the A4 engine. In addition, it comes loaded with almost every luxury feature found on other high-end models from 1995.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan, wagon
Engines: 2.2-liter five-cylinder
Transmissions: five-speed manual, four-speed automatic
Models: Audi S6 Quattro

What's New

The 1995 Audi S6 is slated to cancel production for the next model year; it does not have any additional changes beyond the new model designation.

The 1995 Audi S6 is available with a sedan or wagon. Both body types feature similar styling and are the same size. The styling is blocky and angular, which is not unusual for 1995 Audi vehicles and looks very similar to the A6 and the older 100. The wagon version comes with a roof rack as standard equipment.

The 1995 Audi S6 is a luxurious vehicle with many standard features, which include air-conditioning, automatic climate control, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power seats, leather seating, keyless entry, power moonroof, a leather trim steering wheel, anti-theft alarm system, Bose audio, AM/FM radio, and a cassette player. Optional features include a CD player and CD changer. Standard equipment is almost identical to an A6 Quattro with every optional feature.

Performance & Handling

The 1995 Audi S6 is very misleading if compared to the A6. The smaller, 2.2-liter, five-cylinder engine is substantially more powerful than the 2.8-liter, six-cylinder engine in the A6. It manages to deliver 227 horsepower compared to the 172 horsepower the A6 produces. It's also faster and accelerated quicker than the A6. The handling is good with the all-wheel-drive system that allows for added traction. The S6 and A6 are built on the same body design, so, unlike the engine, the S6 does not noticeably outclass the A6 in this regard.

The 1995 Audi S6 is equipped with standard features, such as dual-front airbags and four-wheel anti-lock brakes The safety features list is a little subpar compared to modern near-luxury vehicles, but it's fairly typical for its time, even for similarly high-priced vehicles.
