2008 Audi S6 Review

A lot of power, but slower than smaller Audi models.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2008 Audi S6 sedan comes with a V-10 engine that is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo exotic sports car, but it offers less power than its inspiration. The S6 has larger wheels and brakes than the less-powerful Audi A6 and gets supported by better-tuned suspension. The steering wheel includes shift paddles for the six-speed transmission for easy shifting. This Audi, like other models, includes a wide range of safety features. Heavier than the S5, the S6 has slower acceleration and quarter mile times, but this car still delivers a fun drive.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 5.2-liter V-10
Transmissions: six-speed automatic
Models: Audi S6 Quattro Sedan

What's New

The only changes in the 2008 model include an optional satellite radio which now comes standard and Audi lane departure warning system.

The Audi S6’s body has a chrome grille to impress oncoming traffic and a rear spoiler to help improve traction at high speeds. The S6 comes with the usual alloy wheels with a full-size, inside-mounted performance spare tire and a spare alloy wheel. Additional features include variable intermittent wipers, a rear defogger, a power glass sunroof, and cargo tie-downs. The four-door Audi S6 allows easier back-seat access for multiple passengers.

The S6’s interior seems somewhat larger than Audi coupe or convertible models in both the front and the rear. The front and rear seats come equipped with the standard eight-way adjustment controls and multi-level heating. Lumbar support prevents discomfort for the driver and front passenger during long rides. Also like other Audi models, the front leather sport seats offer height-adjustment. The back seats fold individually for adjustable cargo space, and the center armrest has its own storage area to save room in the back seat for passengers. The doors can be remotely locked and have one-touch power windows. Windows also lock remotely. More storage room can be found in the front console and overhead console as well as the back of the front seats. Both the audio controls and transmission controls can be found on the steering wheel.

Performance & Handling

The 5.2-liter V-10 sends plenty of torque to all four wheels with the all-wheel-drive system. The six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission comes with shift paddles. The S6 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The S6 completes the quarter mile in 14 seconds. The heavier weight of this model seems noticeable on highways with a lot of turns. The suspension also falls short of smaller Audis and has a stiff feeling to it when commuting on city streets.

The 2008 Audi S8 is equipped with many safety features, including a four-wheel anti-lock brake system, electronic brake force distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, stability control, traction control, child safety locks on the rear doors, an emergency release inside the trunk, head airbags in both the front and the rear, dual side airbags in the front, and self-leveling headlamps.
