While first introduced eight years ago, the 08 model represents the first full redesign of the TT that comes as both a roadster and a coupe. The new model is a bit larger than its predecessor but maintains a strong resemblance to the previous iteration with the large Audi grille, flared and fully radiused wheel arches and truncated rear deck treatment that includes a manually controlled spoiler.
Always an important design statement, the TT comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels with two variations of 18-inch alloys shod with low profile tires.
While the new model marks the debut of a 4-cylinder Turbo motor, our test car came through with the carryover but powerful 3.2 V6 that is good for 250 horse power and 236 pound feet of torque that delivered power to the optional "Quattro" All-Wheel-Drive system. Our test car also came with the electronic sequential transmission; and as would be expected on such a car, a six-speed manual is also available.
Brakes are ventilated 4-wheel discs with ABS and hydraulic brake assistance.
The EPA estimates fuel economy at 23City/31 Highway for the 2 liter Turbo and 18 City/24 Highway for the automatic transmission V6 like in our test TT Coupe.
While the TT is listed as a four-passenger vehicle, we found the rear seat to be next to unusable for adults, but the split/folding rear seat yielded a substantial 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space.
The all leather interior is highlighted by heated, adjustable sport seats and a multi-function leather-wrapped adjustable steering wheel that includes paddle shifters for the sequential gearbox.
The center dash console contains a Bose audio system with 6-disc CD changer, am/fm and Satellite radio with MP3 player and the automatic climate control system as well as the optional navigation system if selected.
Driver and passenger are protected by front and side impact airbags.
The TT carries a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty and a base sticker price of $34,800 for the 2 Liter model and $41,500 for the 3.2 Quattro.
The all new Audi TT Coupe. Well worth a closer look if you're in the market for an upscale and updated sport coupe.
