While the TT coupe and roadster make for a pair of fun-to-drive 2-doors, those seeking a more performance oriented ride will be pleased to know Audi has released a more hardcore version, the all-new 2009 TTS.
Available as a 4-passenger coupe or 2-seat roadster, the TTS boasts a more aggressive look, with standard 18-inch S-design wheels, quad tailpipes, a 10-millimeter lower ride height, side skirts, and front and rear sport bumpers.
Powering the TTS is a turbocharged, direct-injected 2-liter inline-4. It produces 265 horsepower and 258 pound feet or torque, sent to Audi's signature Quattro all wheel drive through a 6-speed direct shift gearbox, operated via steering wheels mounted paddle shifters.
Fuel economy for the TTS ranges from 21 miles per gallon city, up to 29 miles per gallon highway- this in a 2-door that can roar from zero-to-sixty in 5.2 seconds.
Aiding in getting the most out of the TTS are ride and stability enhancing features such as the magnetic adaptive damping system and the rear spoiler that extends at 75 miles per hour and automatically retracts at 60.
While the TTS is about performance, its still an Audi with a level of comfort and interior refinement worthy of its 4-ring emblem. Leather seating is standard, as is a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, a 6-disc stereo system with auxiliary MP3 jack, and a trip computer that features a lap timer for those seeking to take the TTS out on the track, or just to time your trip to the corner store!
As for the convertible, it will open or close in just 12 seconds, and can do so at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour.
Standard safety features include 4-wheel antilock disc brakes with electronic brake force distribution, electronic stabilization program, side-impact door beams, and a full array of front and side impact airbags.
Base MSRP for the 2009 Audi TTS is $45,500. A fully loaded TTS will top out at around $57,000. The TTS is backed by a 4-year, 50,000-mile powertrain warranty.
With aggressive styling and the performance equipment to back it up, Audi gives drivers seeking to get more performance out of the TT a potent alternative in the all-new 2009 Audi TTS.
