NEW YORK, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifteen Virginia companies are among the nation's leading black-owned businesses, according to the 35th annual BE 100s report. The cornerstone of the June issue of BLACK ENTERPRISE magazine, the BE 100s is a comprehensive list that includes a total of 275 businesses: 100 industrial/service companies, 100 auto dealerships, 60 financial services firms, and 15 advertising agencies.
Virginia highlights:
-- Industrial/Service Companies
RS Information Systems Inc. (RSIS) ranks at No. 16 on the BE
INDUSTRIAL/SERVICE 100 list. The McLean-based systems engineering and
IT company reports $328 million in 2006 sales.
Military Personnel Services Corp. of Falls Church makes its BE
INDUSTRIAL/SERVICE 100 debut this year. With $75 million in sales, the
staffing and personnel services company came in at No. 55.

BMW of Sterling/Mini of Sterling moves up one slot to No. 20 on the BE
AUTO DEALER 100 list with $122 million in 2006 sales. Led by Chief
Executive Thomas A. Moorehead, the company's commitment to a solid
business philosophy, strategizing, and community involvement has earned
it the coveted title of BLACK ENTERPRISE Auto Dealer of the Year.
Making its BE AUTO DEALER 100 debut is Infiniti of Chantilly, coming in
at No. 51 with $48 million in sales for 2006.
-- Financial Services Firms
The Edgar Lomax Co. moves up a slot to No. 10 on the BE ASSET MANAGERS
list, reporting $1.64 billion in assets under management.
BLACK ENTERPRISE develops rankings by collecting surveys from companies and gathering information from government agencies, professional organizations, industry associations, business information services, entrepreneurs, and corporations. The information includes total revenues for the 2006 calendar year, a detailed description of business activities, historical ownership data, and confirmation that the entity is at least 51% black-owned, or that blacks own at least 51% of its controlling shares if the company is publicly traded.
