HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Although a winter storm is currently exiting Pennsylvania, most areas of the commonwealth can expect high winds most of the day Sunday, potentially leading to widespread power outages. Residents who experience a loss of power are urged to call their electric utility immediately and report the outage.
"With the icy precipitation some areas had earlier, coupled with high winds that the National Weather Service has forecast for today, we anticipate that many more areas will experience a loss of power," said Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency Director Robert P. French. "The Public Utility Commission is in contact with electric utilities statewide to have power restored as soon as possible."
Over most of the state, road conditions range between wet, snow-covered and icy. Please do not travel unless it is absolutely necessary and when you do drive, slow down and be extremely cautious.
The state emergency operations center (EOC) activation continues to support county emergency services and coordinate state resources in response to this latest winter storm. Multiple state agencies, including PennDOT, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Public Utility Commission, as well as the National Weather Service are embedded with PEMA supplementing commonwealth response efforts.
