MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 30
/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Standards for Technology in Automotive Retail (STAR), a global information technology (IT) standards body for retail automotive and related industries, has published its second set of draft schema repositories for the 2008 - 2009 development year.
The highlights of this draft publication are a series of enhancements made to meet the growing demand of a global market. The demand for global standards was echoed recently by IBM's corporate policy regarding standards bodies and the need for standards to support the global community.
STAR has met the global challenge with a series of standards based on UN/CEFACT's Core Component Technical Specification and the Open Application Group Integrated Specification, opening the door for global implementations. STAR implementations have since grown from North America to Europe and regions of Asia-Pacific.
The highlighted series of enhancements for this release were as a result of a joint effort by two European auto manufacturers, Renault s.a.s. and PSA Peugeot Citroen. The two worked together with STAR to identify and incorporate needed enhancements into the STAR Sales Lead standard to meet international requirements.
As noted by David Benquis of Renault s.a.s., "The main lesson learned is that STAR BODs fit the needs of North America and European OEMs with little adaptations. This is another example of STAR's ability to provide global solutions for its members and the overall user community."
