Mooresville, NC (Sports Network) - Scott Riggs will drive the No.36 Toyota for
Tommy Baldwin's newly-formed racing team in 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
competition, the team announced Monday.
Tommy Baldwin Racing plans to run a full Sprint Cup schedule this season;
however, no sponsor has been named for the car at this time.
Baldwin announced earlier this month the formation of his new race team, as he
will hold the title of both owner and crew chief.
"I look forward to working with Tommy," Riggs said. "I think we can work
together to build something really strong. I feel fortunate to work with
someone like Tommy who has so much experience."
Riggs drove for Haas CNC Racing in 2008, finishing 31st in points and
recording only one top-10 finish for the season. He has competed in the Cup
Series since 2004.
Baldwin began his crew chief career in 1997 with driver Dick Trickle. He
joined Ward Burton at Bill Davis Racing in 1999 and led him to four victories,
including the 2002 Daytona 500. He served as Dave Blaney's crew chief at BDR
for the past two seasons.
"Having Scott Riggs on board is a huge stepping stone for Tommy Baldwin
Racing," Baldwin said. "He's a top-caliber driver, and I look forward to
seeing the success we can have together."
