Crew member who chased tire at Atlanta suspended four races

Daytona Beach, FL (Sports Network) - NASCAR has suspended crew member Jimmy Watts from the next four races for rules violations during Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Watts, the gas man for Marcos Ambrose's No.47 Toyota in the Sprint Cup Series, was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 9-15-U (crew members must not go on the race track for any reason while the cars are racing or while the cars are running under the yellow flag or the red flag, unless otherwise directed to do so by a NASCAR official). He has also been placed on probation until December 31.

Frank Kerr, the crew chief for the No.47, has been placed on probation for the remainder of the year for violating sections 12-1 and 9-4-A (crew chief assumes responsibility for the actions of the team).

Watts chased down a tire that escaped Ambrose's pit stall and rolled into the infield grass during a round of green-flag stops, forcing NASCAR to throw out the third caution flag on lap 67. The sanctioning body later suspended Watts for the remainder of the race.
