Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - NASCAR could be moving its Sprint Cup Series
annual awards banquet from New York City to Las Vegas this year.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Friday that NASCAR and the Las Vegas
Convention and Visitors Authority have reached an agreement in principle to
bring the Sprint Cup postseason celebration to Las Vegas in the first week in
December.
According to the newspaper's report, the LVCVA would pay NASCAR between
$500,000 to $1 million for each year of the contract. Rossi Ralenkotter, the
president of the LVCVA, wants a deal of three to five years. NASCAR would
select the venue for the banquet, likely held somewhere on the Strip.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said nothing has been finalized about this
year's banquet plans.
NASCAR has held the awards ceremony in New York City since 1981.
