Rain forces postponement at Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, NY (Sports Network) - Thundershowers at Watkins Glen International on Sunday forced NASCAR officials to postpone the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen until noon (et) Monday.

The storm moved over the track just before the command was given to start engines. After a heavy rain fall, track drying efforts were underway at the 2.45-mile, 11-turn course, but a light rain persisted by 4 p.m. (et), as NASCAR decided there was not enough daylight left to run the advertised 90-lap distance.

Jimmie Johnson will start on the pole after winning Friday's qualifying at Watkins Glen. Johnson captured his first pole on a road course. He has yet to win at either Watkins Glen or Sonoma, CA.

Kurt Busch will start second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Marcos Ambrose, who won Saturday's Nationwide race at Watkins Glen, and David Stremme.

For the second straight week, a Sprint Cup Series race will run on a Monday. Bad weather at Pocono last Sunday also caused a one-day delay.

The weather forecast for tomorrow's race calls for scattered thunderstorms with a 40 percent chance of rain.
