Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Brian Vickers has signed a multi-year
extension to his contract with Red Bull Racing, the team announced Tuesday.
Vickers will continue to drive the No.83 Toyota. He has been with Red Bull
since the racing organization's first year in Sprint Cup Series competition in
2007. Ryan Pemberton will also continue to serve as Vickers' crew chief.
"I'm thrilled," Vickers said. "This has been a long time coming, and there is
nowhere else I would rather be. I am looking forward to building on what we
have started the last couple of years. It is an interesting experience being
with a team from the ground up - going through the growing pains, then
successes, together. I am so proud to have been able to bring this team their
first win."
Vickers' signing comes two days after he gave Red Bull its first Cup victory
at Michigan. He leads the series with six poles so far this year. The 25-year-
old driver is currently 13th in the championship standings, just 12 points
behind 12th-place Mark Martin.
"The team is continuing to prove that it is a consistent force week in and
week out," team vice president and general manager Jay Frye said. "Brian has
been here from the beginning, and he continues to be a vital piece of the
puzzle with regards to our ultimate goal of building Red Bull Racing into a
consistent contender."
Three races remain before the "Chase for the Sprint Cup" championship begins,
with the top-12 drivers in points advancing into the playoffs.
