What's New
If the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class looks like it has been mildly refreshed, and not completely made over, the same can be said about the E63 AMG. It still looks like a badass family racecar. Observers will quickly notice that the E-Class has a new front end with sharply detailed, LED-adorned headlights, and a new grille. Where the standards E gets two new grilles, the E63 AMG gets two new models: the E63 AMG 4MATIC, and S-Model. That means all-wheel drive in the standard model (AMG? Standard?), and an even racier AMG (which also has AWD).
Who It's For
In practical terms, no one needs an E63 AMG, or 550 horsepower in a street car. The market for this car is not stemmed from need, but desire. It's asinine, and we love it and we can't wait to drive it.
Key Features
The E63 AMG gets all the same new goodies as the standard E-Class, but being an AMG, it goes a little overboard in other areas. • E63 AMG 4MATIC receives standard all-wheel drive and 550-hp V-8 • E63 AMG S-Model receives standard all-wheel drive and 577-hp V-8 • The most important number for people who desire these cars? 3.5, or 3.6. That's how long it takes to reach 60 mph from a standstill.
What We Think
There's something to be said about subtlety, and then there's something to be said about 550 and 577 horsepower. These cars are simply the quickest and most exclusive mass-produced sedan/wagon on the market. They will be very successful.
