It's not like the Nissan GT-R needed to get faster, already one of the most amazing performance cars the world has ever seen. So Nissan didn't make the 545-horsepower supercar any quicker than it already was. What Nissan did do, however, is refine the overall package and instill it with better, more predictable handling dynamics and some improved refinement, which certainly was needed.
Entering its final model year before undergoing a full redesign, the 2015 Nissan GT-R is one of the ultimate realizations of what the Nissan GT-R ought to be, with an improved structure, added interior color--White Ivory--and adaptive LED headlights.
Who It's For
As you quickly learn when driving a Nissan GT-R, this is not a car you're going to pick up members of the opposite sex with; it's a car geek's dream. You're going to get teen and 20-something guys who grew up on "Gran Turismo" swooning about the once-unattainable supercar. At more than 100 grand, the car is still unattainable to most people, but at least there's been a reason since 2008 for us to stick our spare change in a piggy bank and hope we don't spend it all at the movie theater on a rainy day.
If you're a fan of ripping performance and will most likely never be able to afford a Bugatti or Lamborghini, this is probably the closest you're going to get to a truly visceral experience you're likely not to find much anywhere else.
The Nissan GT-R has an improved structure that takes so much of the Nissan GT-R Nismo's improvements. Also, it has:
- New LED headlights and tail lights.
- Recalibrated steering for fewer mid-corner corrections.
- New Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 600 tires that are grippier than the outgoing rubber.
- New shocks for a more refined, better-performing ride.
What We Think
The Nissan GT-R has been affectionately known as "Godzilla" for ages, and the 2015 model ought to keep that reputation going. The GT-R lacks refinement that we're sure will be addressed with the next-generation model, but we know Nissan isn't standing still with the current model. We can't wait to drive the new version to see how it stacks up and how its otherworldly performance compares to the 2014 car's.
