What's New
Just like its gasoline variant, the new 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid offers the same capabilities and versatility, just with added fuel economy benefits. As Subaru's first hybrid, the Crosstrek increases fuel efficiency, helping to broaden the appeal of the vehicle. Also, the Crosstrek Hybrid shares the gasoline model's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and chassis. On the new model, sound insulation, keyless start, and revised air conditioning controls have all been added. Weighing in at only 300 pounds more than the gasoline Crosstrek, the hybrid variant combines a 2.0-liter Subaru flat-4 engine with a 13.4 horsepower electric motor.
Who It's For
When looking for a vehicle that has off-road capabilities, is fun to drive, and is safe, Subaru hits the nail on its head. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid, priced in the middle of its class, will offer up strong competition to other small crossovers, hybrid or not, when it hits the showroom floor in the fourth quarter of this year. The Hybrid brings another level of sophistication to the vehicle, helping to solidify its place in its segment. The exterior and interior enhancements are sure to catch anyone's eye, helping to further the brand.
Key Features
Fuel efficiency and a quieter ride are not all that makes up this hybrid. Standout features on the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid include:
Color Multi-Function Display, which allows the driver to configure various readouts on the dash
Active Grille Shutters, which close at speed to improve aerodynamics
Active Torque Split variant of Symmetrical all-wheel drive, which enhances foul-weather stability.
What We Think
Subaru has stepped up its game by introducing the brand's first production hybrid model. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid keeps to the off-road tradition, but refines the ride. With the same performance and capabilities, the new Crosstrek will show what it's capable of when it goes on sale. Loads of features have been added to the SUV, making it more modern and attractive to today's buyers. Because it is a hybrid, the new Crosstrek will appeal to more than just those who want to go off-roading, but to those who care about the environment as well.
