2014 Chevrolet Corvette Research Click to hide
Last year, Chevrolet announced the return of the new Camaro Z/28. This year, the automaker is continuing with the momentum to debut the new 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible. This doesn’t happen every day. The last time Chevy offered a Z06 convertible from the factory was back in 1963.
Not only is this one of the first offerings of a convertible in the Z06 lineup in the last 50 years, it's also one of only a "handful of convertibles in the world" to offer "more than 600 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque." Thanks to a new frame, the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible has been made possible.
The new model will feature an all-aluminum structure, an electric top that can open and close at speeds up to 30 mph, along with a quiet interior. The new model will be powered by the all-new LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine and feature direct injection, active fuel management, and continuously variable valve timing. Between the coupe and convertible models, there aren't very many changes, and both share a performance-driven aesthetic.
Who It's For
For those who enjoyed the Stingray, the Z06 Convertible furthers the success. Drivers looking to fine-tune their behind the wheel experience can use the Driver Mode Selector to create the perfect feel. With up to a dozen customizable features including launch control, traction control, Performance Traction Management, and an electronic limited slip differential, drivers have the ability to custom-fit the car to their preferences.
Drivers can choose from the standard seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match or the all-new eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission that boosts performance and efficiency. While fuel efficiency isn't always a big draw with supercars, Chevy has been turning out some powerful, efficient machines that will immediately put a smile on anyone's face.
There's so much to like about the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible, but here's just a few:
- Convertible top offered for the first time in 50 years
- New eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission for added performance and efficiency
- All-aluminum high-tech structure for a strong, lightweight body
What We Think
For the first time in the last 50 years, Chevy is bringing a convertible to the Z06 lineup. Thanks to the new all-aluminum body structure which made it all possible, Chevrolet can toss its name into the hat with the small number of automakers who have such a powerful convertible model in their lineups. Featuring over 600 horsepower and just as much torque, this thing will no doubt be like a rocket ship on wheels. Thanks to specific body designs and enhancements, the Z06 Convertible is just as agile and capable on the track as the coupe. The new automatic transmission adds another touch that makes this car something else. A new batch of customers may be lining up to get their hands on this model when it hits dealers later on. We know we can't wait until our shot behind the wheel.
