Wonder what Maserati's shapely GranTurismo coupe would look like as a convertible? Your puzzlement is over. The Italian automaker released photos of its new GranCabrio model, which will debut at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show.

Maserati released few details, but there are a few tidbits to tantalize along with these photos. For starters, there's no retractable hardtop, like that found on the Ferrari California. Instead, Maserati chose to use a traditional canvas soft top, which stows under a tidy-looking tonneau cover. Also, don't expect the base 4.2-liter V-8 underhood. Maserati says the GranCabrio makes use of the GranTurismo S's 433-hp, 4.7-liter V-8, mated to a six-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Regardless, the Pininfarina-designed cabriolet looks absolutely stunning in these photos, and we can't wait to see it in person. We'll bring you live photos from the GranCabrio's debut on September 15. Stay with Automobile Magazine for the latest on the drop-top Maserati and all the other happenings at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show.
