Dodge unveiled the production version of its Nitro SUV, and it looks exactly like the concept we first saw one year ago. The Nitro is a sister model to the {{{Jeep Liberty}}}, and is built alongside the Liberty at the Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio. Compared to the Liberty, the Nitro is longer, lower, and wider. The extra length is split between the rear seat and the cargo area-the latter offers an innovative sliding load floor. There are three trim levels: base, SLT, and R/T. A 210-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 is the standard engine in all three, while an optional 4.0-liter V-6 brings another 45 hp to the R/T, which also features a firmer suspension and 20-inch wheels. Unlike the Liberty, Dodge will not offer a diesel engine in the United States, though foreign markets will get one. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual, along with four- and five-speed automatics. Buyers also choose rear- or four-wheel drive. Maximum tow rating is 5000 lbs. The Nitro rolls into dealerships in October.
